A bread toaster is a miniature electric appliance which is used to heat sliced bread by the action of radiant heat, which makes bread to become brownish in colour as well as hard in texture. Usage
Toaster, or as it is more commonly called, bread toaster, is operated by first connecting it to a wall outlet. Slices of bread proportionate to the number of bread slots available in a toaster, are then inserted into the slots. A lever on the side of the toaster is subsequently pressed down. It lowers the bread into the toaster and activates the heating components. Also, the dial which functions as a temperature regulator is finally set to a desired heating level.
After all adjustments have been made, the bread is allowed to toast for some few minutes usually between 6 - 7 minutes. When the toast cycle is completed, the toaster turns off automatically and the bread pops out of the slot.
There are variations in the design of toasters. There are single-slice, two-slice and up to four-slice toasters. There are also extra-wide slot toasters which are capable of containing unconventional bread-slice sizes.
How long does it take to toast a slice of bread?
Based on the actual performance of a toaster, a slice of bread takes about 5 - 8 minutes to toast completely. Specific time may vary depending on the type of toaster, heating settings and amount of voltage flowing into the toaster. A high voltage will result in a faster toasting time. On the other hand, a low voltage will cause a delay in toasting, and hence will take a longer time to go into completion.

Toasted bread is mainly served with tea or coffee. Toasted bread can be spread with jam or butter, and served with a beverage which may be tea, soft drink or coffee.
